A nurse who was given an MBE by Prince Charles has been exposed as a child abuser who attacked young children at a care home.
Trevor Francis, who once painted himself as an ‘upstanding citizen’, is soon to be sentenced after being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault against children.
Now 71, Francis, a trained nurse, took over as manager of St Margaret’s children’s home in Elie, Fife, in 1973, after its previous manager, David Murphy, was found to be a paedophile. 
Francis was part of a new regime at the home that should have removed the children from the threat of abuse.
He was given an MBE in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the community in Aberdour, Fife, where he worked as a station master. 
But behind the facade others described him as ‘creepy’ and a ‘Jekyll and Hyde character’ who subjected kids there to brutal physical attacks and sickening sexual assaults.
Francis’s name came up during the probe into Murphy in the late 90s.
But it was only when one brave victim came forward in 2014 that police were able to build a case against him.
They proactively visited former residents of the home who told their stories of abuse at his hands.

Dunfermline sales rep jailed for five years for sex abuse of girls in Inverkeithing 
Sales rep King, of Dymond Grove, Dunfermline, was convicted of sexually abusing Dana Fowley, now 36, who waived her right to anonymity, between August 1992 and June 1995 at houses in Edinburgh and Inverkeithing and having unlawful sexual intercourse with her as a 12-year-old child.
He was also found guilty of indecency towards a second girl whom he preyed on from the age of seven  from 1990 until she was 10 in 1994 at houses in Edinburgh and Inverkeithing, molesting her and forcing her to perform oral sex on him.
He had also been accused of raping the second victim but was acquitted on that charge.
Dana Fowley earlier said outside the court: “I am delighted. I have been waiting 19 years for this.”
She said she had first reported the offending to police in 1997.
She said: “There were more abuse days than normal days.” She said her stepfather, Billy King, began abusing her at about the age of five. “He was raping me. A jury convicted Alan Lowey of Inverkeithing of raping and sexually assaulting a little girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on various occasions between September 1978 and September 1989. The infant was five-years-old when Lowey started abusing her.

Inverkeithing man jailed for buying alcohol for two underage girls

An INVERKEITHING man has been jailed after buying alcohol for two teenage girls who claimed it was for their grandmother.
Instead, they downed vodka and other spirits at Prestonhill Quarry (map) and became very drunk, with one of the girls then walking into “an extremely dangerous stretch of water”.
William Cameron, 44, of Fraser Avenue, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
He had previously admitted buying alcohol on behalf of the girls – aged 15 and 16 – from a shop in Fraser Avenue on July 6 last year.
He was also sentenced for a charge that he neglected two children in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health by keeping them in filthy conditions and exposing them to insecure controlled drugs and weapons on February 5, 2015.
Cameron had bought a bottle of vodka, a quarter bottle of vodka, a bottle of Mad Dog 2020 and a bottle of apple sourz for the girls, who had told him they were buying it for their grandmother.
The girls then went to Prestonhill Quarry, consumed the alcohol and became very drunk.
One of them, apparently feeling suicidal, went into the water at the quarry up to her neck.

Edinburgh man chased after flashing at Aberdour dogging site 6 Oct 2016
A COUPLE were left shocked as an Edinburgh man exposed himself at a known dogging site in Aberdour.
Colin Pratt drove up to the couple’s car and parked a metre away before getting out of his vehicle and pulling his trousers down and flashing at them at 3pm in the afternoon.
It soon became clear to the 50-year-old that the man and women were not pleased with his actions.
He then proceeded to pull his trousers back up and drive away, with the couple following behind.
Pratt, of Calder Court, Sighthill, Edinburgh, admitted that on November 13 at Goat Quarry, Aberdour, he exposed his genitals to a man and woman with the intention that they would see them, conducted himself in a disorderly manner and committed a breach of the peace.
Depute fiscal Craig Donald told Dunfermline Sheriff Court: “The complainers were shocked by his behaviour and gestured towards him as if to enquire what he was doing.”
It was at this time that he pulled his trousers up and got back into his vehicle before leaving the location.
Mr Donald continued: “The complainers followed after the accused and made contact with him after he parked his vehicle.”
Defence solicitor James Moncrieff explained to the court that the location Pratt attended was a “known dogging site in the area”.
Pratt was challenged by the couple as to why he acted that way and he said: “I know. It was offensive.”
It was at this stage that police were contacted and Mr Donald stated the officers who questioned Pratt noted that he was “mortified by his actions” and that he felt “extremely guilty”.
Mr Moncrieff further stated: “It was a desire for some excitement in his life. It has caused difficulties in his marriage but his wife is standing by him.”
He told the court that his client was “very, very remorseful” for his actions and that it had been a “genuine error”.
Mr Moncrieff admitted that there was a sexual element to the offence but asked for his client not to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
Sheriff Chris Shead said: “This had the potential to cause a more serious reaction if the people involved had not been as rational. It had the potential to result in a serious public disturbance.”
Pratt was not put on the sex offenders’ register but was fined £500 for his actions.
